hi, just a quick question for you!

when a computer come out of the factory it has no partitions or operating system. there is a program called fdisk that lets you create partitions and then the operating recognises the HD.

on installation some operating systems regonise the HD before they are partitioned, do you know if Mandriva is one of these?

all imput is appreciated

Welcome aboard :)

Mandriva will work out of the box with unpartitioned drives. It will either partition it by itself or you can run the partition manager yourself (easy to use tool). If you need help on that, just ask us.

Yes. During the early stages of the install, you'll be presented with several options such as to use all free space, letting the OS automatically partition the drive for you, or if you want you can choose Custom to specify the partitions you want and their sizes.

See this LE2005 slide show for screen shots of the install process:

Depending on the size of your hard drive and whether you might want to multi-boot different OS's, you may want to leave space for other OS installs.
