Guest shagnthings
I'm an occasional Linux user. Started with Red Hat, then SUSE, and then Mandrake 9. Well, I'm back on the Linux kick again and looking at using Mandriva. I'd like to use it as a file server primarily with other occasional functionality Would anyone recommend downloading 2005LE or 2006 beta3? Thanks. jboy
Either one is quite nice and will suffice! :D I recently downloaded 2006 Beta 3 and was quite pleased with it. Compared to LE2005, it boots quicker, seems more responsive, no problems with it so far. Of course, though, it's a beta so you'll have a lot of updates to download (there's a beta 4 coming up soon) and will face an upgrade to official version when released. Here's the schedule: http://qa.mandriva.com/twiki/bin/view/Main/MandrivaLinux2006 Here's a recent review of Beta 3: http://distroreviews.com/index.php?view=109 So, take your pick! scarecrow
I wouldn't really recommend 2006 beta3 to any occasional Linux user. It IS a Cooker release, and only experienced Linux users can handle its vices/bugs properly.
wilcal
LE 2005 is quite stable and I use it as my primary platform. 2006 beta3 is just that. Lots of bugs and things that you think are there, are not.
