nvidia: glx loaded, then unloaded

Yes, it's another NVIDIA question! I installed the NVIDIA driver (3123) from the tarball (I'll use the src rpm's next time, I promise), but with only partial success. The glx-module seems to be loaded, then gets unloaded immediately. Below is the relevant part of the XFree86 log. I have checked all the usual problems, but the XF86config-4 looks good (nvidia instead of nv, load glx at the right place, etc), and /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so points to libglx.so.1.0.3123.

The nvidia driver gets loaded normally, as well as all the rest.

I have mdk9.0

Can anyone help me out?
