Jar files

I really don't kno whether i shold be asking this question in this forum, but here goes. I am installing Jxta jar files in linux but don't know how or where to install them.

 

Do they need to go in any particular directory so that i can use them?

Thanks for that, i have tried

 

java -jar jxta.jar

 

but get the folowing error, does anyone know where i'm going wrong?

Thanks for all your help so far. The one last thing i'm struggling with is adding jar files to the classpath, do you know the commands i would use to do this?

I've tried adding the jar files to the .bashrc file, but when i compile the .bashrc file i get the following error.

 

bash: TMOUT: readonly variable

 

i am typing ". .bashrc" to compile the .bashrc file is this correct?
