PS/2 mouse pointer not moving

Hi,

I've got a gigabyte PS/2 mouse.I'm using mandrake 10.1.When i get the GDM/KDM/MDM the mouse pointer is not moving,When i tried clicking, the pointer jumped into the upper right corner of the monitor and stays there(this is wat happened while installation also). But once i get into KDE the clicks with my mouse works but the pointer does not move and the scrolling also not working.Googled and got that there seems to be a change in input layer(psmouse.c) in the 2.6 kernel and hence the problem. So i switched to 2.4.27mdk kernel in 10.1 and using the mouse with no problem at all.

And in one place someone has posted a hacked psmouse.c to solve this prob.

Has anyone tried this?.

This is the same case with Ubuntu(hoary), suse 9.3 ,Mephis 3.1 also.

I tried in ubuntu and suse forums and have got replies which told me to change the xorg.conf file or pass some boot time params (like psmouse_proto=bare,psmouse_noext=1,psmouse_proto=imps),but nothing worked.I posted this as a kernel bug in opensuse and yet to have a reply.

Can anyone tell whether this problem is solved in the latest Mandriva 2006?.Any ideas?

I'm very much disappointed with this mouse problem. Please help.

Thanks and Regards,

Vasanth.
