Dvd reading error (Debian)

Recommended Posts

As you might have read, I had to reinstall, and this time, I can't play DVDs with ogle, and I'm guessing I didn't install something I need. I have libdvdcss2, libdvdread, libdvdnav, libdvdplay, all the ogle requirements, also ogle-mmx (Debian Sarge remember).

Anyway, when playing dvds (encrypted, haven't yet tried with unencrypted ones), I get the following output:

libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.8 for DVD access

libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.8 for DVD access

libdvdread: Attempting to retrieve all CSS keys

libdvdread: This can take a _long_ time, please be patient

No accelerated IMDCT transform found

ctrl: ipc_rmid: Invalid argument

What is an IMDCT transform and what am I missing? Also, the last time I tried (before I turned off my computer and maybe changed a few packages), I got sound but no video. Mplayer works playing videos (but not DVDs). DMA is turned on, and this happens as root or normal user.

What am I missing? Thanks all.

UPDATE: Dvds work great with Kaffeine. I guess I can just use that for the moment, but I'd love to know why it won't work with ogle.

You already know that Debian support for non-GPL things is unofficial and quite thin.

I guess you have to use another libdvdcss2 instead of the 1.2.8 .deb you used.

Please take a look here and here

And of course you might wish to try compiling libdvdread3 and libdvdcss2 yourself.

It will be a good idea to install those for dvd play and other media stuff:

gstreamer0.8-plugins

gstreamer0.8-lame

gstreamer0.8-ffmpeg

w32codecs

libdivx4linux

lame

sox

ffmpeg

mjpegtools

vorbis-tools

libdvdcss2
