i have a genius sound maker value 5.1 . it has a c-media cip on it: cmi8738.

I don't know how to make it work. i have no audio output. Can you hel me pls?

What's the output (on a root console) of "lsmod" ? Is something like "cmipci" listed? If not, what happens after a "modprobe cmipci" ?

If it's accepted without complaints then your card is detected- else, try moving it to another PCI slot.

I have a C-Media chip as well (though probably a different sound card, Turtle Beach Riviera), and Mandrake auto-detected it once installed. If it didn't autodetect, go to mcc and hardware and sound, and see if you can auto-load it. Also, try disabling your previous sound card (if you had a previous one).
