jboy
To make room for a 2006 Beta install, I resized an existing partition and deleted a swap partition, which had been /dev/hdb6 (I have a swap on the first drive, so didn't need it). original hdb7 --> now hdb6 original hdb8 --> now hdb7 The new partition I created became hdb8. There are no current problems, I've adjusted fstab entries. But now the partition table entries are out of order as can be seen by the 'fdisk -l' out below. Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/hdb1 * 1 10199 81923436 7 HPFS/NTFS /dev/hdb2 10200 19929 78156225 5 Extended /dev/hdb5 10200 11767 12588219+ 83 Linux /dev/hdb6 13602 16801 25703968+ 83 Linux /dev/hdb7 16802 19929 25125628+ 83 Linux /dev/hdb8 11768 13600 14723541 83 Linux Partition table entries are not in disk order My question is: Would this cause me any future problems with having the partition table entries out of order? For instance, for the new 2006 install which I want to put on /dev/hdb8, the one that is out of order, will the 2006 install correctly work with hdb8 being out of order? tyme
I'm not aware of any way in which it would cause a problem. As long as it points to the right portions of the drive, it should be OK. It's just a numbering thing :)
