Hello Guys,

I still trying to this modem to work.

I have updated the /etc/pcmcia/ config to include:

card "Sierra Wireless AirCard 555 A555 Rev 1"

manfid 0x0192, 0xa555

cis "cis/SW_555_SER.dat"

bind "serial_cs"

I have added the file 'SW_555_SER.dat' to /etc/pcmcia/cis

All according to instruction from the Card manufacturer.

In /etc/pcmcia/config.opts the following irq are excluded

first serial port irq 4

second serial port irq 3

parallel port irq7

PS/2 mouse irq 12

After reboot inserting AirCard 555 freeze the screen and the USB mouse. Moving the mouse to ps/2 port didn't help and the last lines in /var/log/messages shows this:

localhost cardmgr[2500]: socket 1: Sierra Wireless AirCard 555 A555 Rev 1

localhost kernel: cs: memory probe 0xa0000000-0xa0ffffff: clean.

localhost cardmgr[2500]: get dev info on socket 1 failed: No such device

localhost kernel: uhci_hcd 0000:00:07.2: host controller process error, something bad happened!

localhost kernel: uhci_hcd 0000:00:07.2: host controller halted, very bad!

localhost kernel: ttyS1 at I/O 0x2f8 (irq = 3) is a NS16550A

When take out the card the mouse connected as a USB is still frozen when I move the mouse to the PS/" port the mouse works and the screen come alive again.

I read somewhere that one needs to experiment with excluding irq's because the pcmcia card takes what ever irq it finds so in order to direct it to the right irq you have to exclude the other irq's

The exclude irq list above is the standard config.opts due to reinstall but I have tried several before, but no luck.

When I insert the pcmcia card before I boot it freezes on 'interactive setup section pcmcia'

I have also tried to insert the card before reinstall mdk 10.1 and then the last 2 lines in /var/log/messages shows:

localhost cardmgr[2265]: product info: "Sierra Wireless", "AirCard 555", "A555", "Rev 1"

localhost cardmgr[2265]: manfid: 0x0192, 0xa555 function: 6 (network)

I believe this confirms the driver is OK.

function: 6 (network) confuse me, I expected 'serial'

At the time because something else was wrong with the setup I didn't explore it any further since I believed I could do it later.

I feel I have done some homework and would be happy if someone can guide me out of this blind alley.

PLEASE
