Pix
Will get Mandriva off a mirror (i.e. not use the version I got with a Linux mag) and see how that goes :) You must think I am a right pain!
Ixthusdan
Right pain, left pain, what's a pain among friends?
arctic
if you have broadband, i suggest to update your system using easyurpmi http://www.mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/index.php go to this site and set up the mirrors. after that run the following command as root in a terminal: urpmi --auto-select
Pix
Reinstalled gnome, but again had no joy... same old problem. So I thought I'd give kde another go, installed that, and still I have the same problem. Just freezes after I enter my password :(
arctic
if both, kde and gnome freeze, i start wondering if this ain't a problem with a bad configuration of your graphical setup. as root, run from a terminal XFdrake and check that the gui is set up correctly. Ixthusdan
To test the basic setup, choose a lite wm. One is always installed be default. If you can't login to the basic desktop, it's x.
Pix
Update..... After lots of faffing around, I can now login if I am in failsafe mode and use kde :D That is the only way though :/
Ixthusdan
After all the messing around, if the download is good and the burn is good, it has to be the device that is messing with the data. The cd device from which you are installing might be bad.
Pix
I had to zap the whole lot in the end. Bit annoying, but I now have a working Mandriva hurrah :D
