Hello Guys,

I post this here since it is a winmodem (internal chip)

After a long struggle I have my mwave modem up and working.

I use mdk 10.1 official, Thinkpad 600 with mwave modem.

I use 'mwavem-2.0-1.i386.rpm' downloaded from rpmseek.com and wvdial for testing modem availability.

I have ttyS1, have set setserial and the correct symbolic link. Both webbrowsers work (Opera and konqe..something) and E-mail work (Opera).

After I boot or reboot it do not work and mwavem cannot start. and I get this /var/log/messages:

Jul 11 10:02:01 localhost kernel: ttyS1 at I/O 0x2f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A

Jul 11 10:02:02 localhost mwavem: Initializing mwave manager...

Jul 11 10:02:02 localhost mwavem: MwaveAPIInit - StartMwaveSubsystem failed  Jul 11 10:02:02 localhost mwavem: ERROR initializing mwave manager...

Then I try (1):

[root@localhost log]# modprobe mwave

[root@localhost log]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/mwavem start

Starting Mwave modem:

Starting Mwave Manager:                                     [FAILED]

[root@localhost log]# wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

Sorry, no modem was detected!  Is it in use by another program?  Did you configure it properly with setserial?

Second try:

[root@localhost log]# modprobe mwave

[root@localhost log]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/mwavem start

Starting Mwave modem:

Starting Mwave Manager:                            [ OK  ]

[root@localhost log]# wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf

Found a modem on /dev/ttyS1, using link /dev/modem in config.  Modem configuration written to /etc/wvdial.conf.  ttyS1<Info>: Speed 115200; init "ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0"  [root@localhost log]#

AND THEN EVERYTHING IS OK UNTIL NEXT BOOT.

But I can see that KDE don't work as usual.

Since the mwavem I downloaded is not an 'mdk....rpm' could it be this or should I find a source (src) and compile to mdk..rpm. I am little bit hesitant since I have never done it before and I am not a geek. Or... could it be other things which can be wrong.

Since my modem don't work stable yet and the phone line is of bad quality I cannot use urpm outside media. Maybe there is a mwavem..mdk..rpm out there somewhere.

Look forward to your response and help/advice. please :help:
