System crash.

I have the Mandrake Globetrotter. (it's an external HD with mandrake

10.0 installed and connects via USB 2.0)

I have been unable to boot the device. After two hours of no luck, I

went into rescue mode (which will re-install the original configuration

from the factory.)

Well, that doesn't work either. It gives me the message, "fsck failed

on /dev/sda5 with exit code 4 or signal at

/usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.3/mdkcommon/func.pm line 32"9

Sometimes it gets farther and wil begin to reinstall software...but then, it gets to some packages such as OpenOffice and then stops.

Then it tells me to return to the rescue menu and will not carry out

any other functions.

When I try to boot regularly (without hitting F1 to go to options), it

gets as far as saying the initialization did not work and I should try

passing the kernel (?) (Newbie here...trying to remember as best I can)

Then it freezes.

Anyone know how I can get the device to boot or restored?

Thank you. all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Mark
