patbier
Hello, I've installed Mandriva 2005 I've updated it When i launch xawtv, the window appears with strange colors, a window called "Welcome" appears, but my computer freezes instantly. I can only reboot it... At the other side, tvtime works great with no pbs. I need xawtv too, can you help me ? It worked great with Mdk 10.0 and 10.1 My hardware : Athlon XP 2800+ 1 Go Ram Ati Radeon 9600 pro Pinnacle PC TV Mandriva 2005 kernel 2.6.11-12mdk ati-driver-8.14.13 xawtv 3.
devries
Run it from a console and look at the errors before it freezes. Could be a X problem the you have to change the display settings in xawtv (can you styill alt-sysrq-r,s,e etc out?)

SoulSe
Try reinstalling xawtv with urpmi.
devries
Alt-sysrq-r,s,e,i,u,b is a way to close down your pc when it stops responding. Press alt-sysrq-r, then alt-sysrq-s, then alt-sysrq-e etcetc till -b (that is reboot). If there is no error try reinstalling like soulse says (don't forget to delete the hidden .xawtv folder in /home/your name directory. patbier
ok, thanks for your answers 1) i tried to reinstall xawtv : urpme xawtv urpme xawtv-common delete .xawtv in home directory urpmi xawtv, which installe xawtv and xawtv-common 2) i tried both to launch xawtv as user and as root but, it freezes again in both cases 3) i tried alt-sys-r, alt-sys-s ... alt-sys-b and the computer reboots so it is a X freeze, as kernel responds for rebooting. Could this be a problem with ati drivers, like they don't like overlay or 32 bit render ?
devries
Easiest way to find out is to try use a different driver and not the ati driver. :) PS. after alt-sysrq-i you can usually login (press ctrl-alt-F1) and startx again (startx). A lot of services will have been shut down though (no printing, internet etc)
