Network not starting at boot [solved]

This is a problem similar to many others, but mine was a problem with

modules. I'm posting this in the hope other users might find it useful.

Everything worked fine with 10.0, 10.1 (upgrade). Using a Linksys

Router with a cable modem.

After upgrading to LE 2005 (10.2) from 10.1, the network would not

start at boot. Had to configure a new (cable) network connection (in

Mandrake Control Center = "drakconf"), and half way through the

connection-wizard the network would spring to life. HardDrake would

then show that the ethernet card (a VIA Rhine VT6102) requires the

module "via-rhine". After rebooting (with the network not working)

running "lsmod" as root shows that the via-rhine module was not

loaded. To load at boot time added the line:

alias eth0 via-rhine

to the top of /etc/modprobe.conf and that did the trick.

Don't know why this stopped working after upgrading to 10.2.

Maybe interesting for the developers?

Good Luck,

Justin
