ianalis
Hi! I've learned that it is not recommended to install an rpm from cooker. What then is the best way to upgrade a software: rebuild from a cooker srpm, compile the vanilla tarball or use the author's precompiled binary? theYinYeti
I usually prefer the SRPM or the original tarball. There are issues with the latter, though. See my page on this: http://yves.gablin.club.fr/pc/linux.php?ar...oftware/install Yves.
scarecrow
The source tarball is always the most flexible solution, but of course you must know how to put that flexibility to good effect.
Hirogen2
SRPM - I review the spec file and the build process, and if it suits me, I run it. If not, I take the .tar.bz2 out of the SRPM and use that tarball. (Note that this saves bandwidth :-) - only download one file and have both "rpm" and "tarball")
theYinYeti
I often do like Hirogen2 says, too. With a 56k modem, having the possibility to try the SRPM way, and then the tar.bz2 way, with only one download is great! Yves.
