I use mandrake 10.1, and I connect on internet by kppp, using an external modem.

Whenever the connection is attempted for the first time after starting linux,

it breaks and a log file contains:

May 29 16:47:58 localhost pppd[5284]: pppd 2.4.2 started by postar, uid 500

May 29 16:47:58 localhost pppd[5284]: using channel 1

May 29 16:47:58 localhost pppd[5284]: Using interface ppp0

May 29 16:47:58 localhost pppd[5284]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS0

May 29 16:47:58 localhost pppd[5284]: sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap 0xa0000> <magic 0x5a9c4067> <pcomp> <accomp>]

May 29 16:48:01 localhost pppd[5284]: sent [LCP ConfReq id=0x1 <asyncmap 0xa0000> <magic 0x5a9c4067> <pcomp> <accomp>]

May 29 16:48:03 localhost pppd[5284]: Hangup (SIGHUP)

May 29 16:48:03 localhost pppd[5284]: Modem hangup

May 29 16:48:03 localhost pppd[5284]: Connection terminated.

May 29 16:48:03 localhost pppd[5284]: Exit.

When the connection is attempted again (for the second time, or third, or later),

there are no problems. I don't change anything in the settins between the two attempts.

The log file starts just like the previous one, with the only difference: instead of

'using channel 1', it stands: 'using channel 2'.

Now, I am interested: what does it mean 'using channel 1' ?

Can I change some settings, so that kppp always use channel 2?

Or can I do anything else so that each connection is succesfull, even

the first connection?

'The first' means - the first after starting linux.

Thanks in advance ! :help:
