adolfix
I saw the kernel-source-2.6-2.6.8.1-24mdk is installed and that kernel-source-stripped-2.6-2.6.8.1-24mdk is not installed. What is the difference between the two ? Why a kernet-source-stripped ? Should I install the kernel-source-stripped too ? Why ? and when ? Thanks in advance Edited May 24, 2005 by adolfix
pmpatrick
It's a size thing. The kernel source is usually a big file to download(>100MB) so they make a smaller stripped down version which used to be referred to as the "kernel headers". The kernel source is the actual source code for the kernel which is why it's so big. The stripped down one is just the headers and is sufficient for many purposes. If you installed the source package you don't need the stripped source package.
