FX
Even though Ubuntu is a wonderful distro I feel the need for more. Yea I know you can use the "heart and sole" of linux in Ubuntu the thing is, if there is a gui for it I'll use it. I feel that I am missing too much by that. I need to be forced to use the ol' cli. :D Anyways what kind of prompted me to do this was the fact that I tried to recompile the kernel in Ubunut and even though I read the wiki it still didn't seem to work. Now I have done compiles before with Slack and Arch and in those distros they seem easy as pie. I'll probably have some questions because as I stated I've been spoiled. lol I do have notes from before but I still may need some help. scarecrow
It ain't braindead compiling a kernel properly under Arch Linux too, but quite easy, even if you haven't done such a thing before. The reason is that the Arch kernels are almost patch-free, unlike Mandy, SuSE, Fedora...
jlc
I always thought compiling a kernel was the same across the board :)
iphitus
I always thought compiling a kernel was the same across the board :) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And ive done it the same way in every distro, arch, mdk, debian, lfs. make oldconfig/make menuconfig make make modules_install cp arch/i386/boot/bzimage /boot/ edit grub/lilo, reboot. rinse and repeat weekly for each 2.6.x.y release.
