Hy.

Please forgive my ignorance, but i'm a newb and i've got a few questions.

First of, i don't have an internet connection (at least not at home), so i can't use urpmi.

My question would be :

- what files do i need too download (and from where) to upgrade to xorg 6.8.2 and also to KDE 3.4. I'd like an exact list, since i have access to a very low bandwith connection at school (i can download about 100-120Mb each day)

I've downloaded quite a few files from Tach, but when i try to install XOrg 6.8.2 i get a lot of "dependencies" errors.

Here's what i've downloded until now :

http://rpm.nyvalls.se/10.1/RPMS/kde-3.3.2/xorg-x11-Xdmx-6.8.2-6.mdk10.1.thac.i586.rpm

http://rpm.nyvalls.se/10.1/RPMS/kde-3.3.2/xorg-x11-100dpi-fonts-6.8.2-6.mdk10.1.thac.i586.rpm

i've tried to install with

rpm -Uvh xorg-x11-6.8.2-6.mdk10.1.thac.i586.rpm

and i get the following missing dependencies :

libxorg_X11 = 6.8.2.6

X11_libs = 6.8.2

lib Xaw > 0.8

xorg_X11 = 6.7.0

the first error i think i'll fix by downloding

http://rpm.nyvalls.se/10.1/RPMS/kde-3.3.2/libxorg-x11-devel-6.8.2-6.mdk10.1.thac.i586.rpm

http://rpm.nyvalls.se/10.1/RPMS/kde-3.3.2/libxorg-x11-6.8.2-6.mdk10.1.thac.i586.rpm

but about the rest ? :wall:

:thanks: in advance for any help, and sorry for the long post.

I'm afraid there is no easy solution for this. Urpmi checks for dependencies so you can only use that. If you do urpmi kdebase-XXXX (download the kdebase 3.4 at school and copy it to your PC) it should give you a list with all the packages you need for a working kde 3.4 (but you still need kde-pim, multimedia etcetc).

The best thing is to ask a few of your friends for their bandwith (maybe some kids at the school don't use all of their quota) and dowload everything that's in the kde 3.4 (still rc1) at Thacs.

Good luck.

Hy.

I've managed to install XOrg, now i only need to find out how to activate the transparency :D.

Anyways, here's what i've did to upgrade Xorg from Thac's RPMs, just in case somebody needs to do this :

I've copied all files to /mnt/win_e/Linux/XOrg and then wrote this at the command prompt :

urpmi.addmedia xorg6.8 file://mnt/win_e/Linux/XOrg
urpmi xorg-x11-6.8.2

The first command added Thac's RPMs to my RPM list, and the other command installed xorg.

@devries

For the KDE, well, i've downloaded part of the RPMs, but i get an error when trying to install :

"Missing dependencies : missing perl-MDK-Common[>= 1.1.21]". The problem is that i didn't see any "perl-MDK" package.

Anyways, i'll try to find that package with RPMFinder (or something similar).

I'll keep you posted with my progress.

I really think that i have tried to explain what urpmi repositorys that are required to use my rpms at my site.

mandrake main, mandrake contrib, plf and my own is absolutely required.

i have also made my own version of apt synaptic with the needed repositorys preconfigured

ile texstars pclo.

Hy, i've managed to find the missing RPM, just in case somebody needs it, you can look at http://rpm.pbone.net/, they've got a nice search function.

Now all i hope is that i'm not missing any other files, but at least now i know where and how to look for them. :D

@Thac, sorry for not understanding from the begining that besides your RPMs i would also need some of the mandrake main, mandrake contrib and PLF RPMs. After all, as i said, i'm just a newb.

I just hope i didn't get anybody angry with my "stupid" questions.

Thanx for all the help.
