nerdzyboy
I have already posted about this problem but I just can't solve it! Here's the problem: Every time I try to install linux the installion freezes when doing the partition check... (after the cd boots at startup but before the install starts) I've tried other distributions than Mandrake (RedHat and slackware). RedHat does the same thing. I am able to install slackware but lilo can't be installed. I looked at the bios if something was wrong but everything looks ok. Also I can install windows 98 and everything works fine. I would really apreciate if someone could help me about this because I can't see what the problem is...

Guest Phat Penguin
try a "linux ide=nodma" on the install. I had a similar problem with installing Mandrake 9.0 on an old PII 266 computer once - and this fixed the problem. Bit of info about it here .... http://www.exocore.com/technologies/linux/rhl71dma/ Regards, PP

Guest Phat Penguin
nerdzyboy, glad to hear it ... this was a frustrating problem that had me banging my head against the wall for a while ... even stumped my local linux guru at the time. Great thing about linux is that there is rarely a problem you face that hasn't been overcome by someone, somewhere :) Hope all goes well and you enjoy your new linux system.
