Hi

My machine is a Laptop Compaq Armada E 500, 384 m Ram and 18 GB HDD.

It has Mandrake 10.1 CE installled with Gnome and KDE.

Yesterday for no apparent reason the Panel BAr on Gnome has disappeared and refuses to come back I have tried typical windows solutions : Loging out, restarting, shut down and restart but none of these crude techniques work..

I don't know what to do. Can some one advice

I have uninstalled evollution and reinstallled it apart from that no other software related work has been undertaken.

Wlill be very grateful

regards

Bamboo

1. Do you have Save Session checked off when you log out?

I ended up not having that as the default because if something goes wrong, and the panel session is saved that way, it'll be loaded when you logout and back in.

2. is gnome-panel running? Open a terminal and do;

ps -A

or use top, the gnome-system-monitor, or something

If it is not running do;

gnome-panel

If it is running, logout>Ctrl+Alt+F2>login and do;

mv -f .gconf/apps/panel .gconf/apps/panelOLD

and log back in. Note: this will cause you to loose all your panel preferences and give you a default panel setup again.
