Guest santoshp
I am running Samba 3.0.7 on Mandrake 10.1 (Official). I can access shared folders from WinXP PC. But after sometime (may be 20-25 mins) the connection to Mandrake is lost. Mandrake PC freezes and only option is to push "Reset" button or "Power Off". I can not even ping the linux box. Just a background: Earlier on the same PC, I had Mandrake10.1 and WinXP dual boot and Samba was just great. Never got any issue with it. Pls help. Guest santoshp
maybe u can try to check the logs of your linux to get some idea whats happening <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I dont see anything unusual in logs. I noticed that machine is running, can hear fan sound but no graphics (black monitor). Also I can't ping the linux box.
Qchem
are you sure theres nothing in either /var/log/messages or the X log in /var/log? Without a bit more info its hard to diagnose - it could even be a hardware fault.

I powered off the box and restarted at Feb 28 22:35:36. It seems its related to network, but can't understand why this makes linux freeze. I had same box, exact same configuration, did not even tighten the screws :o , earlier with Mandrake10.0, never had any samba issue with that. Pls post experiences. Thanks in advance! aioshin
try to change your NIC, since you have there extra working PC.. try also to change the cable .... you mention earlier that you cant ping that box, maybe connection problem try to issue $/sbin/ifconfig verify if you have your NIC detected and if thereś an IP on it Edited March 1, 2005 by aioshin
Guest carvalhoso
I have the same problem. I try to change de NIC, the whole computer, don't have anything of stranger in the log. The services is on: - Samba - Apache - Proftpd - Postfix - Syslog - ssh - pop3 The computer that i chaged continued with Mandrake 10.1, without de Samba and the Postfix. Didn't freeze more... There are 50-70 computers acessing de server. Ps.: Mandrake is updated... When the computer freezes it continues answering the ping (but no accepts connection). Ps2.: Sorry, i don't write in English very well... Edited April 4, 2005 by carvalhoso

Qchem
Have you checked for updates to samba from mandrakesoft?
Guest carvalhoso
Have you checked for updates to samba from mandrakesoft? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I already updated for the mandrakesoft and for samba.org (version 3.0.13). It locked again... I changed the NIC (SiS900, ee100pro, rtl8029 - ne2k-pci, rtl8139) and it wasn't solve. Today (and yesterday) it locked in the same moment that the connection with the internet locked (the gateway is independent and DNS server are in another sub-net). I am thinking about installing a DNS server to try if it solves the problem, no longer I know if the fault is of the SAMBA.
