kristi
Hi, I'm on Mandrake 10.1 I used MCC to create a new partition for /usr, and created a dir/usr/NWNG I copied nwresources129.tar.gz and nwclient129.tar.gz to NWNG. did tar -xzf nwresources129.tar.gz when that finsher, I coppied nwclient129.tar.gz to nwn cd to nwn did tar -xzf nwclient129.tar.gz did ./fixinstall did ./nwn get "Error" and that's all she wrote! I had this running when I was up on Xandros V3 (2.6.9kern) - I had it in a separate reiserfs partition back then - I did mount that partition to MDK10.1, but got "failed to initialize graphics" with that, so I thought I'd start over... PS if I add 1.65 to 1.29 on MDK, I get the "failed to initialize graphics" (XFX GeF4Ti4200 as generic GEF4, Viewsonic A75f monitor) Thoughts? tia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! kristi
EDIT: fixed by correctly installing Nvidia driver. 2/15/05 Hi and thanks for answering! failed to initialize graphicsWhat videocard do you have? Nvidia? Install the nvidia driver. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "card is an XFX Nvidia Ge4Force Ti4200" "MDK recognized it as a GE4 Generic" Yeah, I figured that and last nighted started to follow the FAQ on installing the driver. Doing the init 3 killed kde but did not give me a prompt - so I ctl-alt-del'ed and went to bed. Today I set my default runlevel back to 3 and booted into root . did urpmi binutils got "everything's already loaded". did urpmi kernel-source and it proceeded to load 42mb of /usr/src/linux-2.4.27-0.pre2.1mdk - really helpful on a 2.6.8.xx system!!!!! nvidia-installer log file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log'creation time: Sun Feb 13 16:30:57 2005 option status: license pre-accepted : false update : false force update : false expert : false uninstall : false driver info : false no precompiled interface: false no ncurses color : false query latest driver ver : false OpenGL header files : false no questions : false silent : false no backup : false kernel module only : false sanity : false add this kernel : false no runlevel check : false no network : false no ABI note : false no RPMs : false force tls : (not specified) force compat32 tls : (not specified) X install prefix : /usr/X11R6 OpenGL install prefix : /usr compat32 install prefix : (not specified) installer install prefix: /usr utility install prefix : /usr kernel name : (not specified) kernel include path : (not specified) kernel source path : (not specified) kernel output path : (not specified) kernel install path : (not specified) proc mount point : /proc ui : (not specified) tmpdir : /root/tmp ftp mirror : ftp://download.nvidia.com RPM file list : (not specified) Using: nvidia-installer ncurses user interface -> License accepted. -> No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you li ke the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel f rom the NVIDIA ftp site (ftp://download.nvidia.com)? (Answer: Yes) -> No matching precompiled kernel interface was found on the NVIDIA ftp site; this means that the installer will need to compile a kernel interface for your kernel. -> Kernel source path: '/usr/src/linux' -> Performing CC test with CC="cc". -> Performing rivafb check. -> Performing rivafb module check. WARNING: Your kernel was configured to include rivafb support as a loadable kernel module. [[[[[[i deleted the rest of this since it was the wrong kernel]]]]]] ERROR: Installation has failed. Please see the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for details. You may find suggestions on fixing installation problems in the README available on the Linux driver download page at www.nvidia.com. I think the immediate question is where do I get/how do I prepare the current source for MDK10.1, and how do I specify that on the command line. Thanks! Kristi EDIT1: okay, I now have /lib/modules/2.6.8.1-12mdk which I believe is the right source. (?) and /usr/src/linux-2.6.8.1-12mdk Now looking for how I prepare it...
