i try this command in my configuration file.

but it doesn' work..

i have the standard mandrake kernel ..

Should i update it with mandrakeupdate?

Some kernels are marked as smp, enterprise, etc. Try shutdown while not using one of those. Also, try to fiddle with BIOS settings. In my imprssion, it's a common problem with Mandrake+ThinkPad (desktop likewise). You might also want to check the Linux on Thinkpads forum http://mailman.linux-thinkpad.org/mailman/.../linux-thinkpad
