Ok...I dunno why...most likely the driver...but I dunno what driver to use then...anyways...my Creative Soundblaster Live! soundcard only outputs teh main 2 channels of the 6...and...even if I found the right driver...I wouldn't know how to install it...so any assistance there would be much appriciated...here's my haddrake info:

[Vendor: ‎Creative Labs

Alternative drivers: ‎audigy:emu10k1

Bus: ‎PCI

Bus identification: ‎1102:2:1102:8065

Location on the bus: ‎0:9:0

Description: ‎SB Live! (audio)

Module: ‎snd-emu10k1

Media class: ‎MULTIMEDIA_AUDIO

seems like it's detecting it ok...except for the 5.1 part...will that even work at all in linux? (if not that's ok...my speakers can fix that decently)

errr....and where would I find that?

If it's in MCC, I failed to find it...if it's in the media player itself, im using XMMS, and I can't seem to find it there either.

Note that I don't have a soundblaster live, but I have a NForce Soundstorm that supposedly have 5.1 channel output too.

In kmix, there is a box named Advanced. Put a checkmark on it and there will be many additional buttons. Put a checkmark on the button that enables the other speakers outputs like rear or center speakers.

uhh...no...there isn't a checkbox labeled advanced...

I was screwing with the drivers and I got all but the center working...but the back 2 are really quiet, so...

Also, using Xine or Totem set to 5.1 doesn't change anything.

i would use alsamixer which i believe is terminal-only...

i'm surprised you're having issues. i used to have a Live! and it worked perfectly, but that was a year or so ago when it was OSS and not ALSA.

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory

err...I don't use alsa...I use OSS...according to Harddrake...lol

Your card currently uses the OSS "audigy" driver (default driver for your card is "snd-emu10k1")

I was using emu10k1 before and it didn't work...then I reinstalled mandrake...and found the new audigy choice...so I used it...and it worked...so...I'm using OSS. Like I said, it kinda works, but the back speakers are too quiet and the center just gets static

I have the same card, and it can work fine.

Do your files actually have any surround content?

Did you try playing a dvd with Xine, with xine set to 5.1 (or, in my case 4.0) speaker setup?

Kmix should then let you control the front and rear channels without any problem.
