MDK 10.0 Official doesn't detect my USB modem

Hi,

I've been looking in Google, and asking for help in some forums but I still don't have a solution for my problem. I've got a Thomson (or Alcatel?... never mind) silver SpeedTouch USB modem. It works fine in Windows (as you can see :P ), but my Mandrake doesn't detect it at all:

The SpeedTouchConf script exits with an error:

modem_run failed (code 253) Modem not found where expected.

hotplug is running in my system.

Only the red USB light on the modem flashes in Linux.

I have almost none additional packages installed on Linux and the default kernel which comes with the MDK 10.0 Official distribution.

Someone help me, please :)

edit

p.s. it isn't the same problem as below! Unfortunately I don't have any other USB devices to check if it works. If it could help - I've got a MSI KT3 Ultra mainboard.

you looked here?, it does cover the silver modem so it might help you along the way

but mandrake doesn't detect my modem at all - like it wasn't connected to the usb port, speedtouchconf exits with an error: modem_run error (code 253) Modem device not found where expected.

try dmesg BEFORE plugging in the modem, and dmesg AFTER plugging in the modem. dmesg should add a few lines at the end when you plug in the usb modem.

to see what's added, and to avoid having to post the whole thing again, try "dmesg |tail" to just print the last 10 lines. please post it here...this would just check if a usb device is actually being detected. it should say something like, "new low speed usb device detected..."
