Borys
Hello, I have installed RealPlayer. It works fine, but only with audio and video streams which are "typical" for RP (e.g. .ram). Unfortunately, I cannot run Windows Media Player streams (.asx) -- and I would like to, because some internet-radios I would listen to offer only .asx-streams and no RP-alternative. Please tell me where can I get necessary drivers / plugins and how do I install them. Or, alternatively, which other player could I use to listen to .asx? I tried MPlayer, but it didn't work, although I compiled it with all available drivers. Thank you Borys
devries
All codecs can be found at PLF (look in faqs for urpmi). Mplayer (or another mediaplayer) can play the streams. Good luck.
Borys
I'm afraid I need more hints. I am able to use URPMI, but I don't know what codecs I have to look for.
devries
I think they are called win32-codecs (urpmi win32-codecs). Make you sure you have mplayer installed (urpmi mplayer) and associate (in kde control center, kde components, file associations) asx with mplayer. aRTee
I know I tried this type of webradio/stream at new years, what worked for me was to open the asx page, which has a link inside, and call that link like so, on konsole (xterm) : xine http://switch.streamgate.nl/cgi-bin/streamswitch?streamid=44 I've seen that this can work also with mplayer, there are some options to have no video playing window etc... edit: oh, yes, you do need those codecs devries just mentioned. Borys
Thanks for help. I couldn't make it work with MPlayer or RealPlayer, but I installed Xine together with W32-codecs and now everything seems to be OK.
