Hi,

I am new to linux. I tried to install the mandrake v10.0 dvd iso but I ran into trouble. I got this error

"Could not uncompress second stage ramdisk. This is probably an hardware error while reading the data. (this may be caused by a hardware failure or a linux kerna bug)"

And when I checked the logs this is what I got:

......

...

found a Mandarake Linux CDROM, good news!

Total memory: 256 Mbytes

trying to load /tmp/image/Mandrake/base/mdkinst_stage2.bz2 as a ramdisk

reading compressed ramdisk: IO_ERROR

unsetting automatic

:help: Someone please help me cause I have been sitting with this for quite sometime. I did burn the dvd at a slower rate.

Thank you in advance.

Greets!

Did you check the md5sum of the iso? Are you using good media? While it could be hardware, it is usually a record/poor download issue.

If it is hardware, I would check out your RAM.

OK, the md5sum is a seperate small file that is a numeric value which will match the downloaded file if the bits are correct. K3B will report the md5sum for comparison. There is a windows program that will also calculate it. If the numbers match, the download is good.

That cleared up that problem. Thank you.

Now, anybody know why I get "There was an error installing packages: ldconfig-2.3.3-21mdk.i586 Go on anyway?" and an endless stream of other such errors when I get to the 'Install System' stage?

Edit: Note: now installing 10.1 since I had to redownload anyway to get the md5, the above error was generated by 10.1's disk 1

"Instead of burning, mount it using DAEMON tools"

While I'm not opposed to this concept, I have no idea how to go about something like this, even if I had a functional linux box. What I have is one dead box with an empty hard drive (the target of all of this toil) and the winxp box that I'm currently writing this with.

Ideas?

And, thank you to everyone who has helped with this so far.

EDIT: No acpi and such worked ^_^ Thanks again everyone.
