hea
Yes i know it has been dicussed before, but this does not apply to my situation; ls -d /boot/*/ gives only 'grub'. I.e. idont have any lilo under boot. I cannot modify my /etc/lilo.conf as aru described in another post. Any suggestions? (And the MCC > boot > Boot config does not work for me). fuzzylizard
Are you using GRUB or LILO to boot your machine? If you are using grub, then you will need to edit its config file instead of lilo.conf.
hea
Wll, according to mcc>boot... its lilo w/graphic..but to be quite honest im not sure. For some reason i have taken it for granted that its lilo. how do i tell?
fuzzylizard
I cannot modify my /etc/lilo.conf as aru described in another post. Why can you not edit /etc/lilo.conf? This file will exist on your system, since you say you are using lilo, and should be editable by root. You will not be able to modify it as a normal user though, you will need to open a terminal, su to root and modify it that way. Do you have a link to aru's post? hea
I can actually edit the file but i haven got the files on my system that aru referred to /etc/boot/lilo-text and som other file... fuzzylizard
I see what you are trying to do now. I don't have the directories or files that aru is talking about either. From the sounds of it, you are definitely booting using lilo. As to how to change it to text only, I am not sure. Hopefully aru will poke his head in here and provide a solution. If I find anything, I will let you know.
Cannonfodder
if you are trying to get rid of bootsplash, just uninstall the rpm..
hea
Removing the rpm did it... almost. I still have the graphic interface when choosing the boot image. I have an old monitor which really seems to work hard switching between graphic and text mode. I would prefer to keep i text based until i start x. Is there perhaps a similar solution to this last issue?
aru
The files I talked about were part of the lilo-21.7.5-1mdk rpm package. Sorry, but as I'm still using Mdk 8.1 I have those files here. I didn't thougth that the lilo package had changed that much. Maybe you might want to search for that version of lilo rpm packgage in an 8.1 mirror or search for the files them selves at the home site of lilo... just a thought Also, removing your current rpm package and installing the last tarball version of lilo should work since I'm booting in textmode here on my slackware using the lastest version of lilo. tyme
shouldn't there be an option to change to text-based lilo in MCC->boot? maybe I'm wrong :-/
DragonMage
Wait, I thought bootsplash starts with mandrake 8.2... In 8.1 mandrake uses aurora I think.. Maybe it's aurora you should uninstall.. not bootsplash.
hea
Well heres my lilo.conf. The different boot sections in this file displays in a graphical menu when booting. I guess i should replace the line menu-scheme with something, but what? boot=/dev/hda map=/boot/map vga=normal default=linux keytable=/boot/no-latin1.klt prompt nowarn timeout=100 message=/boot/message menu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bw image=/boot/vmlinuz label=linux root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="quiet devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi" vga=788 read-only image=/boot/vmlinuz label=linux-nonfb root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi" read-only image=/boot/vmlinuz label=failsafe root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd.img append="failsafe devfs=nomount hdc=ide-scsi" read-only other=/dev/fd0 label=floppy unsafe image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.19-1mdklinus label=2419-1linus root=/dev/hda1 initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.19-1mdklinus.img append="quiet devfs=mount hdc=ide-scsi" vga=788 read-only
