Jza
I got a Lucent WinModem on my Dell Inspiron 4000 laptop. The modem Lucent Microelectronics WinModem 56k as describe by Mandrake tells me to modify my kernel for it to run. It seems this lucent modems work great with 2.4.x version of the kernel. I wonder if I can make it work with the 2.6 and anyone can help me set it up and get it to work. Thanks.
tyme
winmodems are sort of tricky. check out this page: http://aslan.no-ip.com/~iphitus/linmodems.php it should help you along the way to getting your lucent modem working. it worked for mine. Jza
I visit the site but they talk more about conexant modems which I think lucent dont enter here. but since you told me that you had the same model(modem) I'll give it a try with conexant. tyme
conexant is the chipset, IIRC, that some lucent modems are based off of. if you use the scanner tool he talks about there, you should find out if any of them will work for you. also check out the links at the bottom (i.e. http://www.linmodems.org) Edited January 10, 2005 by tymark

tyme
First: You should upgrade to MDK 10.1 CE or OE, because it looks like you're going to need kernel 2.6.8.1-10 which I guess is the base kernel for 10.1 CE The only driver I could find in my search is here: http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/l....1-10mdk.tar.gz This -may- work with 2.6.8-0 (the one you have), but it also may not. the file includes a README which should explain what you need to do. Jza
Ok today I try to create the modules from the source, this kind of seem to work since it created the modules. But I want to know how to load the modules. I wish I could have more experience on kernel management (compiling, adding modules) I even got to the directory of the kernel documentation for devices, but here my lack of experience showed up since I couldnt even identify which folder to go to (no modem folder neither ppp). Thanks for the new link, I will try it rigth now, cheers.
Jza
After getting files you gave me I couldnt add the modules to the kernel. I got this error after executing the modprobe commands.
