DNS Server is OK but where is cache "named.ca"

I am a newbie to Linux DNS but used to dabble with MS Windows NT 4 DNS.

DNS Server works OK in Mandrake 10.1 but I am not sure that I have set it up to cache the lookups.

My hunch is that it is simply forwarding all requests to my Internet provider's DNS server.

# cat /etc/resolv.conf

search mydomain

nameserver 192.168.1.90

nameserver 151.203.0.84

nameserver 151.203.0.85

domain my domain

# ppp temp entry

According to a book "Using Linux" there is supposed to be a file "named.boot" which has a line in it "cache named.ca" to tell it where the DNS entries are cached.

I cannot find the file "named.boot" and the file "/var/named/named.ca" seems to be a list of dns root servers.

I was hoping that there was a cache file of all the web sites which the DNS server had looked up.

Or are all my DNS inquiries just being forwarded to servers on the Net? Is there any proof that my DNS server cached any lookups?

Interestingly when I do a "nslookup", it appears to be getting the lookup from my local DNS server.

[root@Scotty root]# nslookup www.mandrakeusers.org

Server: 192.168.1.90

Address: 192.168.1.90#53

Non-authoritative answer:

www.mandrakeusers.org canonical name = mandrakeusers.org.

Name: mandrakeusers.org

Address: 213.232.92.170
