devries
You need a software mixer like arts or esd. If you use kde install de arts plugin for xmms and change the output setting to use the arts plugin. (the same goes for Gnome and esd). If an app doesn't allow you to change the output settings start it by typing: soundwrapper <app name> Good luck.

devries
type: fuser -v /dev/dsp to see what app is using the soundcard/onboard sound. Close that app and try again.
Guest Jabbathehut
i couldn't change to the arts output because it just wasn't there. so i did the soundwrapper thing and still, it's not there. is there supposed to be a plugin for XMMS for that?
