But when i try to dial on when using mandrake, it will dial on, and disconnect and keep doing that over and over..... and never get a stable connection I also have a creative hcf modem when i installed that under mandrake i get the same problem. I know the modem is dialing and I know my password etc... are correct Does anyone have any idea what im doing wrong? thanx

Guest oppen
If it's an Conexiant chip they now "support" linux and rpms for various kernels that mandrake runs on.
Guest BlackSnow
HSP56 is a PCTEL winmodem...i think it wil be to do with PPP, which is the protocol modems use to dial up to the Internet. "pppd" is the PPP daemon which connects you, and then keeps you connected, which your dial up program will be using. http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/pctel-linux/

SoulSe
The fact that you can dial out means that your problem is probably with your PPP and network settings and not with the modem as such. I always start the trouble-shooting with modems by trying to dial with wvdial (it is on your Mandrake cds). Edit the config file and then try to dial, if wvdial cannot hold onto a PPP connection, then nothing will. Also try contacting your ISP and find out if their network has any specific requirements that you might need to add into a script.
