"Missing" Softwares for x86_64

Maybe this is problem with trivial solution but I am not sure how to get this done .

Here is my problem :

I finally got an Athton 64 machine and hurriedly installed the 10.1-rc1 ( can't afford the real thing ).

Though the release has 3CD and thus some of the development stuff are missing - its not much of a

trouble to get the srpms and compile them on the machine or install the precompiled ones from the official repositories.

But soon I discover that not all the softwares have been ported to x86_64.

Surely you can get the sources - but not all of them build. For instance, scilab-3.0 is available for 32bit machines - I tried building from the source with "rpm --rebuild " but build doesn't complete.

I was wondering whether it is possible to run the scilab 32-bit binaries on this machine without booting with the x86 kernel ? The naive "rpm -ivh " replies that certain libs missing though their 64bit brothers are installed on the machine. Should I force the rpm ? What other possibilities exist?

Help would be appreciated.

Best,

A.
