There are the binaries, config files etc etc. Linux uses basically the old unix settings where to place these files. adamw Posted November 28, 2004 Report Share Posted November 28, 2004 A quick answer to the actual question - a typical RPM will install some executable files in /usr/bin , some libraries in /usr/lib , and some configuration files in /etc . Documentation will go into /usr/share/doc . You should never change these destinations, although theoretically you can. Linux installation isn't much like Windows installation at all - there are standards for where things go and it is almost universally better to let Linux handle this for you. You look after your own data, which you will always store in your home directory, and the system will look after program files and libraries.
