liquidzoo
What screensaver program are you using (xscreensaver or the kde screensaver) and, if xscreensaver, what screensaver are you trying to display?
solarian
I have the same problem. KDE screensavers on MDK 10.1 Official Simple screensavers work though, but the ones which require more graphical power... I love the Illusions of Depth -> Bouboule screensaver and it works when I press the "test" button, but it doesn't start, or , if it (or another demanding scrsvr) starts, then only as a black screen of abyss. Guest anon
I have the same problem, but only with KDE screensavers, The xscreensaver (far better IMO) works a treat.
solarian
yeah, they're not bad at all, but some of us would like to use KDE scrsavers too :) well.. I think we must wait for a patch then, I at least, because I don't have the skills to repair such a problem.
bvc
http://www.jwz.org/xscreensaver/faq.html#root-fail not supposed to work as root....it's that security load of crap again  worse than M$, linux devel now decides 'you can't do that' for you. gtk-gnutella has adopted this, and now gdesklets. Like it's any of their business. Edited November 25, 2004 by bvc

bvc
what really gets me is that you are supposed to be able to run xhost +localhost and it will run as root, but this hasn't worked for me one time in 3 years
coverup
what really gets me is that you are supposed to be able to runxhost +localhost and it will run as root, but this hasn't worked for me one time in 3 years <{POST_SNAPBACK}> This may have something to do with the content of /etc/hosts. Did you try xhost +your.box.fully.qualified.name?
