If I do choose to do a 10.1 only install what about the dell drivers that came on a CD that I had to use to get everything running up in XP. SoulSe Posted November 14, 2004 Report Share Posted November 14, 2004 Nope - Mandrake should detect and configure itself for your hardware - the Dell cds will only contain Windoze drivers. So load up Mandrake, see what works, and post here with anything that doesn't. Also, run along to http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/ and find your laptop in their lists to see how well everything works in Linux and what needs to be done (it's a really great and helpful site). Oh, and devries - I just read your reply and my post and realised that I might have expressed myself incorrectly - I didn't mean that _you_ were trying to be l33t, only that most geeks who think that being able to compile a kernel is something special and tell noobs not to try it are.
