Guest actarus80
Hi forum, sorry for my english, I'm italian. I bought a laptop by asus, m6842neuh. It's a centrino dothan 1.6 Ghz, with ati 9700 svga. I tried to install Mandrake 10.1 CE, Mandrake 10.0 Official, Mandrake 9.2 .. and other distributions. When I'm installing the installation process hang up, not in the same point. Sometimes it happened during hard drive recognition, other after the graphical screen. How can I resolve the problem? arctic
what hadrdrive is in your laptop? try a non-graphical install and after that try to install the ati drivers in case they are not already included (not sure if the ati9700 are in 10.1 included, but can be downloaded from ati's website). do you have a live-cd? if yes, use it in order to find out if your gfx-card is the troublemaker. if it boots fine, the graphic card should not be the troublemaker but more likely the harddisk. at installation-phase, did you have any usb-devices plugged in? if yes, plug'em out and try again. Guest actarus80
Thanks for your reply. I have an usb mouse plugged. How I can install ati drivers during installation? With other distributions (Red Hat 9.0 for example) it freeze using the graphical enviroment, after a bit that I'm working. On an other pc, a desktop, the installation of linux fails with the nvidia svga plugged. To install some time ago, I plugged an old pci svga, then installed mandrake and after the installation I removed the pci card and inserted the agp nvidia card. This happened only with geforce 4 Ti, with a geforce 2 Quadro for example I had not any problem. I think that linux often has some problems with latest svga. But on a notebook I can't substitute the svga!!! It's very probable that the ati mobility 9700 is not well supported by mandrake releases. The hard disk is identified by windows as IC25N060ATMR04-0 ,is a 60 Gb harddrive 4200 rpm. The dvd writer is a MATSHITA UJ-831-D
