HELLO!!

I have problem with starting (booting) mandrake 10.0

after clean installation.

After mdk 10.0 installation complited, after reboot, the lilo is

starting and when finished his job, when kde should start

suddenly black screen appear, with horizontal blue lines in bottom of

the screen ( where windows taskbar is located ),so that's the end.

I would very appreciate if somebody could help me

to solve this problem.

The motherboard is ASUS P4S8X-X with VIA SIS 648

chipset on it.

(NOTE : i have no problem with mandrake 9.2 version, only with 10.0)

My hdd is 80 GB with 4 seperate partitions, first for win 98,

then for xp, next is for data and the last one is for linux.

Please, if somebody have some suggestions freely write me

back to my address: zoran-d@yunord.net

THANK'S :screwy:

At lilo boot splash, hit esc, and type "linux 3", press enter.

Log in to the command prompt. Type "startx", press enter.

Report back the error it gives you.

HELLO!

When i type "linux 3" then i got this: Mandrake Linux relase 10.0 ( Official ) for i 586

Kernel 2.6.3-7 mdk on an i 686 / tty1

localhost login:

So then i log in as root and then type startx and the result is black screen when kde should start, with blue horizontal lines at bottom of the screen.

Sorry, I know it's frustrating, but x thinks it's actually running, so no errors!

Boot to command line again, and instead of starting x, type "mc" and navigate to /etc/X11/XF86Config.

Toward the bottom of the file, where it has the driver to load (should be after a description of your video card) change "nv" to "vesa" and see if that will give you a better x. Or, if it is not using "nv" try that driver.

Once we are in x, you can use a gui to make changes.

HELLO!

I successful chainged "nvidia" driver with "nv" in "mc", and i got x and gui ,so

now i should make those suggested changes , but i don't know how to do this

( sorry, i 'm just newbie ) .

Please can somebody tell me step by step how to make changes so i could

normally boot in linux through lilo "linux" option rather then again go thru "failsafe" option and "mc".

THANK'S

First, go to www.nvidia.com and download the latest driver. It is "A32" I think in their terminology. Find the Howto on this sight and follow the instructions on installing the driver. Then, try x again with "nvidia".
