Guest Drakia
When I am listening to XMMS and someone messages me on AMSN it doesnt play the sound for AMSN until I click stop on XMMS, this happens with some other stuff too. Is it supposed to be like this and is there any way to make it so that the sounds can play when something else is playing?
devries
It's normal behavior when you soundcard/onboardsound doesn't do hardware mixing. If you want to have multiple apps using sound at the same time you need a software mixer. In KDE this mixer (sound deamon) is called arts, in Gnome esd. For xmms to use arts download and install the arts-plugin from PLF and change in the xmms settings output to arts. I don't know about amsn, but likely its an option somewhere that you have to check. The same goes for every other app and for esd and Gnome. (though kde apps should automatically use arts). Good luck. Edited September 8, 2004 by devries
