Guest IsmaelY
Hi all, I have just recently put MDk 10 on my sons computer for 2 reasons, for me to learn about Linux and also to limit what my son (7 years old) can do... (2 painful with windows and I wanted an excuse to run Linux anyway ). So for my first of what I can see will be many questions from me, I have an old Dlink DWL 520 Rev B PCI card and have been frustratingly trying to get it to work.. B4 anyone asks about the PCI bus etc.. The card works on the same machine (abit BE6) under Win98/2000 & XP. I have spent many hours looking over the internet, followed MadWifi & WLAN-NG instructions (even compiling source which took me ages) However under control manager when I check the available drivers they aren't added and the default orinoco_pci does not work. (I tried others in the list including Orinoco_plx, prism2_plx etc) all that happens is I am brought back to the manual config startup which I presumed meaned it failed to load. I was a little scared of adding lines from wlan-ng into the scripts (or config) files as I didn't know exactly where to place them. The PC at the mo has only a 8139 PCI NIC that can access the network and also the internet. On load up (standalone or with the ethernet card which is eth0) the wireless card will fail to load. everything else is okay... Can someone that knows about this guide this noob step by step through the process? That is IF it can be done? Many thanks in advance for the help. Regards Ismael PS I also hope this is the right area for this message.

Mine is a Rev B which uses a Harris Prism based chipset. The DWL-520 had around 3 different types of chipset including the one in the thread and Realtek also. I believe that the A,B & possibly C revisions all used the Prism Based chipset with D & E used the above other chipsets. Thanks for the reply though...
