Completely lost while setting up LAN

I tested the cable so I know that works fine.

Ok, here's my problem.

I want to set up the computer to connect to an existing lan.

I want the computer to be seen as TuxBox for now.

My router's IP is 192.168.1.1 and the network name is Family_Network.

I've tried for 2 days now to get it to work, but I'm having no luck.

I need to accomplish the following.

-Connect to the existing network

-Find out how to share files and access shared files on other computers.

-Connect to the internet.

If you possibly can, could someone give me step by step detailed instructions on how to do that with the info I gave?

Thx in advance :)

First thing I would try is to run drakconnect wizard from the console as root. If that doesn't work, then I can give instructions for manual setup. To access shared files that are on a Windows computer, you need to install LinNeighborhood (case is important) and run it. To share files from your linux box to windows, you need to install Samba.

I am using Drakconnect, but either I'm doing something wrong, the onboard lan slot isn't functioning, or I can't network for some reason, my main goal is to get on the net though. If you could help me with Drakconnect, that'd be great, I'm trying to install gimp so I can show what I'm doing at each screen and what I see, but I keep getting an error when trying to compile fontconfig or pango (they're doing something wrong with freetype)

First, why are you compiling things for gimp? Gimp should be on your disks. In a console, as root,

urpmi gimp

Does your onboard lan show up in harddrake2? If so, please post the output of

lspci -v

Only the part that shows your lan is really necessary to show me. It should say 'Ethernet controller'.
