Guest pbprabhuram
I tried to install the latest KDE 3.1 rc5 packages from Mandrake cooker website. I was shocked by the size of the rpms. Then i visited the REDHAT rawhide mirror, to compare the sizes of the kde packages , this is what i got : Package ___ Cooker ____ Rawhide kdeartwork ___ 21mb ___ 13mb kdemultimedia ___ 60mb ___ 7mb kdegraphics ___ 35mb ___ 6mb likewise for other packages also, this is not a exaggeration but true, Cani anyone tell the reason why mdk packages are so big despite having the same content as RH packages. And also is there any chance for the packages to reduce in size.
DragonMage
Cooker usually have debugging codes in it. So it will balloon up the size of the rpms. After all, Mandrake is much more involved in KDE development than RedHat. Now, let's compare the debugging code stripped KDE 3.1 RC5 found in texstar's place at http://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distribut...drake/9.0/test/ kdeartwork-3.1-0.rc5.1tex.i586.rpm 10-Dec-2002 21:33 12.3M kdemultimedia-3.1-0.rc5.1tex.i586.rpm 11-Dec-2002 16:46 7.0M kdegraphics-3.1-0.rc5.1tex.i586.rpm 10-Dec-2002 21:08 4.9M See how the size are similar there.. and even smaller in case of kdegraphics. Anyway, go to the link above to check out texstar's kde 3.1 RC5 rpms.. I am using it right now and it's pretty stable.. but don't say I didn't warn you :)
