mte
hello, i've searched the web on this but found nothing. let me give an example: i'm not sure if i have a package called abc-def-ghi.rpm installed but i know it exists. how would i check if there'se a package called something like abc installed on my system and maybe obtain additional info about this package? thanks, matej
spiedra
Probably easiest way woulod be to go to your software manager or also known as remove your software and do a search for the package to see if it appears. If it doesn't, then you don't have it.
Guest anon
Or you could try rpm -qa | grep name_of_package Or you could even try slocate. Run it first as root with this command slocate -u to update, then run slocate file_name_ Or you could use Kpackage to find it. There are loads of other methods for finding files. Steve Scrimpshire
For additional info about the package: rpm -qi full-name-of-package
mte
thanks all! well the reason I was asking this was that using that rpmdrake was a very slow method if I just want to quickly check what version of a rpm I have.. now it's much faster ;) thanks, matej
