Guest All4Italy
I just bought a HP 5240 laptop and having trouble getting the sound card and modem configured in Mandrake 10. The sound card is a SoundMax from an Intel chip which I believe is integrated into the motherboard. From what I understand, Alsa is supposed to support this chip as of version 1.0.6 which I have downloaded as an rpm. However, Alsa does not load on boot. I have Alsa configured as a module to a stock 2.3.6 kernel. Drak recognizes that a sound card is present, but shows it as unknown. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am soon to go bald from tearing my hair out. I thought I had done my homework before I bought this thing, but obviously did not. devries
When you start alsa make sure you don't have 'sound' apps open (kmix, juk etc etc etc). Look in /var/log/messages for alsa error messages. If alsa does run, make sure nothing is muted (in kmix or alsamixergui) Good luck.
