Guest ipax
Good day, I have any problem. I can install Mandrake 9.0 into my notebook (compaq nx9010), where W xp is running. If I insert the first install disk into drive and restart my machine, I`ll see the Mandrake install dialog box. So I press enter key to start the instalation. Then the instalation control my hardware and then the process cut. Screen looks like: .... ....hda:DMA... .... hda:IC25N040ATMR04-0, ATA DISK drive .... Partion check: hda: and in this place cursor is blinking. I don`t know where is problem. I have reserved a free place in hard disk to install Linux and problem isn`t on the install cd side (on another PC the install process ending successfully). Please help me. Thank you, Zdenek Skodik
arctic
hi ipax and welcome aboard. :) first of all, please give some further info on the hardware of the laptop. this might help. then one simple question to begin with: which formatting has the hd and especially the linux-partition? have you created an extra partition? etc... illogic-al
ipax, when you boot up the CD and get to the splash screen you can try doing linux ide=nodma This will turn of DMA access (which will be slower) but the install might proceed then. If not maybe turning off autoprobing is needed.
Guest ipax
Thanks for your advice. This code have solved my problem. But there is another problem. During the hard drive detection the installation have frozen again. Specifically in that : Installing driver for bus/firewire card Texas Instruments|TSB43AB21 IEEE-1394 Controller (PHY/Link) 1394a-2000. And the command like: linux ide=nodma nofirewire, don`t help me...
illogic-al
hmm. try linux expert ide=nodma and if your asked for a driver or to probe for that texas thing then just cancel. Not sure that will work though.
pmpatrick
Here's a bunch of tips for installing linux on that model laptop: http://freax.be/wiki/index.php/Installing%...nx9010%20laptop From the above, try doing: linux ide=nodma nofirewire or simply: linux nofirewire If that still hangs, go all out and do: boot: linux nousb nopcmcia noprobe nofirewire You can see from the above link that your likely to have some troubles here getting everything working. That was with older linux distros using the 2.4 kernel and mdk 9.0 is similar to those(rh9). You may have better luck with the 2.6 kernels used in mdk 10. Guest ipax
It`s me again. I have taken a Mandrake versin 10, but my problem is still here. The installation frozen during installing driver for Texas card... Anything I have tried don`t have effect, including expert code. I really don`t know what to do.
