murzilla
Hi there! Just installed MDK 10.0 on old Compaq DeskPro EN (PII/333) with ESS1868 on-board audio card. During installation I was prompted to run "sndconfig" for sound card. Installation was fine. Run "sndconfig" as root, audio card was not detected, select ESS1868 from list. All default values (IRQ,DMA,I/O) were OK for my card. But...when playng sample file ("I am Linus..." etc) it was a lot aster - like old vinil disks for 33 rpm played on 78 rpm! When enabling system sound - system beeps sound like , well, I do not know how to tell - just like two frequencies. Looks like something wrong with sampling rate. But how to configure it? I use /Multimedia/Soubd/Audacity. Tried to play MP3 and WAV files.Get some strange noise instead of music. For me it sounded like samples of frequencies. More of it.I checked HardDrake - no sound card is detected! I checked "module.conf". Here it is: "alias autofs autofs4 probeall scsi_hostadapter usb-storage probeall usb-interface usb-uhci alias eth0 eepro100 alias sound-slot-0 sb options sound dmabuf=1 alias synth0 opl3 options opl3 io=0x388 options sb io=0x220 irq=5 dma=0 mpu_io=0x330" For me parameters of ESS1868 looks OK. But still - sound is there, but it is messed somehow. Is there are some ways to get sound works normal way?
devries
Have you tried playing around with your mixer settings? (PCM, 3D etc etc)
