Guest saxinhand
hi there, trying to get a home network set up and having a little trouble. The scenario at present is this: I have two boxes in my house, one is connected to the net via a dial up modem, the second box is connected to the first via ethernet card. Therefore, in box one, there is a dial-up modem to internet and and ethernet card to my home network and in box two there is just another ethernet card. I simply want to share the internet connection on box one with box two. I have been trying all kinds of bits and pieces with dhcp servers and squid but so far have had no luck and don't even know if it's necessary to run these. I'm running mandrake 10.0 on both boxes and used the connection sharing wizard and the proxy wizards but still no joy. The two machines can ping each other so the ethernet is there under it all. There is also a problem with the firewall loading up (i think) because it doesn't like a redirect line in the rules. Any help at all will be very much appreciated. Cheers. streeter
You don't need a proxy, DNS server and DHCP server running. The Mandrake wizard will try to set these up for you, and often fails... see this thread:A similar query Chris
