manza7
Can someone please tell me how to switch from Gnome to using KDE graphics environment, is there a file somewhere I can do the edit and switch, the server I am using is in a network closet and I just want to switch my profile. Also, in Mozilla, when I click on some pictures, it comes up with a separate window but with text but no picture. When I right click on the picture, it came up with an error message "Function disabled: Copyright text, images and code" Thanks in advance
devries
You need a login manager like kdm, or you could just type 'kde' at the prompt :) (or if that doesn't work the full path /usr/bin/startkde) The mozilla thing is likely someone who doesn't like you copying pictures from his/her site. Don't worry about that and look in your browsercache. Edited July 31, 2004 by devries
arctic
the server I am using is in a network closet and I just want to switch my profile. it can be that your server has been set up that you can ONLY use gnome and nothing else. same for the mozilla-stuff. talk to the admin, but i doubt, that they will set up kde just for you. ;)
manza7
Just thought I post to close this thread. Picture viewing is OK now after I reloaded the Java using j2re-1_4_2_05-linux-i586.rpm. To switch desktop when you are using VNC or X windows, you need to create a file .desktop in your home directory, the file should contain one line : DESKTOP=KDE or GNOME or whatever desktop you decide to use Once you switched, remember to restart the vncserver. The .desktop file overwrites the system default /etc/sysconfig/desktop file
