Lan "not connected"

Hello all,

I just installed Mandrake 10 on an IBM T41. Control Center shows packets received, as well as DHCP settings, but lan is "not connected". Konqueror cannot see the connection, and I cannot figure out how to turn the send feature of my card on. Seems like if you are receiving, you should be sending as well. I am stumped. Has anyone seen this before??

Thanks

Well,

Bad form to reply to your own post, but after an inquiry to a local guru, the problem was tracked down to my iptables settings. Apparently, if you do not check any options in the firewall setup, it not only blocks servers from requesting data from you, but also you requesting it from them. As a safe default, be sure to select "no firewall" when installing. Phew...glad that's settled.

Don't select no firewall - make sure everything is deselected, them make sure you choose the correct device for connecting to the internet - ppp+ for dial-up or eth0, eth1 etc for a LAN connection. I suspect you chose the wrong option.

The firewall will then be active and still allow replies to your requested packets back in, while blocking new input .
